Nagad official robbed of Tk55 lakh at gunpoint in Jashore

A gang of armed robbers reportedly snatched Tk55 lakh in cash from an official of Nagad after attacking a car in Jashore's Monirampur upazila today (17 June).
The incident took place around 10am in the Jamtola area on the Rajarhat-Chuknagar highway.
Monirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Babulur Rahman Khan said several individuals, including Nagad's area manager, have been taken into custody for preliminary questioning.
He added that police teams visited the scene and an investigation is underway.
According to police and eyewitnesses, Nagad's area manager Rabiul Islam was en route to the Monirampur office from Jashore city carrying the money inside a bag. When the car reached Jamtola, two motorcycles intercepted it. The robbers then broke the car's window, held the occupants at gunpoint, and took off with the bag full of cash.
Local witnesses Mirajul Islam and Jobeda Khatun said they heard the sound of glass breaking while working in nearby fields. Upon approaching, they saw two individuals beside a damaged car. They said another labourer, named Tuku, reported seeing a group flee toward Jashore on two motorcycles with the bag.
Nagad's Monirampur office supervisor Abu Sayeed confirmed that the amount stolen was Tk 55 lakh, based on information from senior officials.
Saju Hossain, the driver of the car, recounted that he was forced to stop when the motorcycles blocked his path.
"Before we could react, they smashed the window and began assaulting us. Then they grabbed the bag and fled," he said.
