Garment worker wins gold necklace in Nagad remittance campaign
Umar Faruq, a garment worker in Gazipur, has become the fourth winner of a gold necklace under Nagad's "Har Na Mana Har" remittance campaign.
He was selected through a raffle after receiving remittance sent by his younger brother, Tarif Mia, who works in Malaysia, according to a press release.
Actress Runa Khan visited Umar's workplace at a garment factory in Tongi, Gazipur, on behalf of Nagad and presented him with the necklace.
Nagad, the digital financial service of the Bangladesh Postal Department, said three other winners had previously received gold necklaces under the campaign.
Launched on 15 May to encourage remittance transfers through legal channels, the campaign will continue until 31 August.
Customers receiving remittances of at least Tk10,000 through Nagad via legal channels are automatically entered into the draw for a chance to win a gold necklace.
"My brother regularly sends money from Malaysia through legal channels, and I receive it easily and quickly through Nagad," said Umar, a native of Netrakona.
"Winning a gold necklace alongside the remittance was beyond my imagination. This initiative by Nagad has brought immense joy to our family," he added.
H U M Mehedi Sajjad, Head of Marketing at Nagad, said remittances sent through legal channels strengthened the country's economy.
"The purpose of the 'Har Na Mana Har' campaign is to honour the invaluable contribution of expatriate Bangladeshis and make it convenient for their families to receive remittances safely and instantly from home," he said.
Nagad said more remittance recipients would have opportunities to win gold necklaces before the campaign ends.
