The detained teacher was identified as Md Mohsin, 35, a teacher at Darun Hikmah Hafezia Madrasa in Mawna Chowrasta
A madrasa teacher in Sreepur, Gazipur, was detained and subjected to a public beating by local residents yesterday (24 October) after he was accused of raping a 12-year-old residential student.
The enraged crowd subsequently held the teacher at a police box and staged a demonstration late into the night.
The detained teacher was identified as Md Mohsin, 35, a teacher at Darun Hikmah Hafezia Madrasa in Mawna Chowrasta. He is originally from Kachutia village under Atpara Police Station in Netrokona.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik stated, "The detained teacher has been rescued and brought to the police station. Further legal action is underway based on the complaint from the child's family."
The reported victim is a 12-year-old boy studying in the madrasa's Noorani section.
His father reported that the rape allegedly occurred inside the residential madrasa sometime yesterday.
The matter came to light when the child's grandfather visited the madrasa in the afternoon, and the child took leave to go home.
Upon reaching home, the boy narrated the ordeal to his father and grandfather, quickly spreading the news in the locality.
Police and local sources confirmed that after the incident became public at around 9pm, over 100 locals gathered, went to the madrasa, and assaulted the teacher.
The mob then dragged Mohsin to the Mawna Chowrasta police box and surrounded it and launched a protest.
Two teams from Sreepur Police Station were initially dispatched but struggled to control the volatile situation.
It was not until around 11pm that additional police forces arrived, dispersed the demonstrators, and rescued the teacher from the police box before taking him to the station.
The tension reportedly lasted for about an hour.
