Man arrested for raping girl with disability in Cumilla; AL leader held for mediating incident

Police have arrested a man on chrages of raping a girl with disabilities in Lalmai, Cumilla and detained a local Awami League leader holding a mediation session regarding the incident.
During separate raids today (26 April), police nabbed the accused Jahangir Hossain, who is an autorickshaw driver, and Enamul Hossain Bachchu, vice-president of Perul (Uttar) Union Awami League and Daulatpur village chief.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmai Police Station Shah Alam said legal action against them is underway.
The victim's mother said the incident took place on Thursday afternoon when Jahangir took her daughter, who has disabilities, to a village guard house garden and raped her.
When she went home and told her mother, she then informed the village chiefs and elders about the matter.
The next day, the mother said village chiefs Joynal Abedin and Enamul Hossain Bachchu held a mediation session over the incident at a tea shop, fined Jahangir Tk5,000 and made him do a sit-up with hands on ears.
