Court disposes of Dhaka girl's case against parents seeking 'protection from abuse'
In the case statement, Mehreen alleged that the defendants in the case physically assaulted her and verbally abused her at their Mohammadpur residence on 25 May this year.

A Dhaka court today (24 July) disposed of a case filed under the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act by a girl against her parents seeking protection from alleged physical and mental abuse.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam ordered dismissal of the case following a hearing, said the plaintiff's lawyer, Somaiyad Shahriar Fida.
"The court ordered the dismissal of the case after both parties settled the matter on their own," said the lawyer after the hearing.
Earlier, on 22 June, Mehreen Ahmed, 19, filed the case with the court of Magistrate MA Azharul against her father Nasir Ahmed and mother Jannatul Ferdous.
In the case statement, Mehreen alleged that the defendants in the case physically assaulted her and verbally abused her at their Mohammadpur residence on 25 May this year.
In addition, she also accused the couple of infringing upon her personal freedom and consistently obstructing her access to the family's daily necessities.
She alleged that she was being obstructed from exercising her rightful entitlements by being deprived of all the resources or privileges to which she is entitled from her family.
Also, it was stated in the case document that the plaintiff sustained mental damage as a result of verbal abuse, humiliation, intimidation, and the use of abusive language allegedly by her parents.
