‘I killed my father, come arrest me’: Young woman calls 999
During the call, the woman told police that her father had been raping her for the past four years

A young woman in Savar called the national emergency service 999 early yesterday and confessed to killing her father, alleging he had been sexually abusing her for the past four years.
The caller, identified as 23-year-old Jannatul Jahan Shifa, told police she wished to surrender and requested them to arrest her immediately, Inspector Anwar Sattar, media and public relations officer of the 999 service, told The Business Standard.
A press statement was also issued by the national emergency service in this regard.
During the call, which came from Majidpur Kathalbagan area of Savar municipality, the woman told police that her father, Abdus Sattar, 55, had been raping her for the past four years. In 2022, she had filed a rape case against him with Singra Police Station in Natore.
After spending a long time in jail, he was released on bail, but his behaviour towards her did not change, she said when questioned about the reason behind the killing.
According to her statement to the police, he attempted to rape her again on Wednesday night, which led her to commit the murder.
Following the 999 call, a team from Savar Model Police Station rushed to the scene, arrested her, recovered the body, and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
After Shifa's arrest, during primary interrogation, she told police that her father used to physically abuse her against her will.
Shifa told police that on Wednesday night, she mixed 20 sleeping pills into her father's dinner. Once he was unconscious, she stabbed him repeatedly with a sharp weapon around 4am yesterday.
Savar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Imran, who visited the scene, confirmed the incident to the national emergency service 999.
Abdus Sattar, originally from Bhaga village in Natore's Singra upazila, had been living with his daughter in a rented fifth-floor apartment after the death of his wife.
According to media reports, Sattar started living with his daughter again after he got bail. The father and daughter moved to the apartment about five months ago.
However, tensions persisted between them due to the earlier case, and Sattar had been pressuring his daughter in various ways to withdraw the case, the reports said ,quoting police.
Police told TBS that a murder case has been filed withthe Savar Model Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
