Hadi shooting: RAB arrests suspect Faisal's parents
Rab said the weapons and ammunition used in the shooting of Osman Hadi were recovered from Tarua Beel.
The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has arrested the parents of Faisal Karim Masud in connection with the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi, a RAB official said last night.
"At around 5:30am on Tuesday [16 December], an operational team of Rab-10 conducted a special operation in Hasnabad Housing area under South Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka district, based on intelligence analysis and with the assistance of modern technology," said Wing Commander MZM Intekhhab Chowdhury, director of RAB's Legal and Media Wing.
The arrestees were identified as Faisal's father Md Humayun Kabir, 70, and his mother Mosammat Hashi Begum, 60.
Preliminary investigation showed that Faisal is the third of four children of the couple.
Faisal frequently visited the seventh-floor apartment of his elder sister, Mosammat Jesmin Akhter, in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Faisal, also known as Daud Khan, visited the house of his sister, located in West Agargaon's Colonel Road area near a water tank, on the day of the attack.
On the night before the incident, Faisal went to Jesmin's apartment carrying a bag and later threw the black bag into a vacant space of the building, the RAB official said.
He then asked his nephew, Jamil, 18, to retrieve the bag.
Faisal threw one of his two mobile phones from the rooftop of the building and handed the other to his mother.
After meeting his parents there, Faisal left Agargaon, travelled through Mirpur and went to Shahjadpur, where he stayed at the residence of Arif, a nephew of Md Humayun Kabir.
The Rab official added that Md Humayun Kabir arranged a CNG-run auto-rickshaw to transport the bag and the driver some money.
Faisal's parents later went to the Keraniganj residence of their younger son, Hasan Mahmud Babul alias Raj, where they purchased and used two mobile SIM cards bought from Jatrabari.
The arrested parents have been handed over to the investigating officer for further legal action, the Rab official said.
In a separate press release, Rab said the weapons and ammunition used in the shooting of Osman Hadi were recovered from the water in Tarua Beel, in front of a "Mollah's" house in the Tarua area under Narsingdi Sadar Police Station.
The recovered items included two foreign pistols, two magazines, one toy pistol and 41 rounds of ammunition.
Rab has also detained a man named Md Faisal, 25, in connection with the incident.
