Further probe report on Hadi murder deferred to 26 Feb
This marks the eighth extension granted to the investigating officer to file the further investigation report in the case.
A Dhaka court today (19 February) has set 26 February for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report on its further investigation into the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah today (19 February) set the new date for filing the report as the investigation agency failed to submit the report today.
This marks the eighth extension granted to the investigating officer to file the further investigation report in the case.
Earlier, on 6 January, the investigation officer, Detective Branch Inspector Faisal Ahmed, submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused.
On 15 January, the complainant, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, filed a petition expressing dissatisfaction with the report, prompting the court to order further investigation by the CID.
According to the case statement, Hadi formed the political-cultural platform Inqilab Mancha following the political upheaval and had been serving as its spokesperson.
On 12 December at around 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured with gunshot wounds to the head and below the right ear.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital, Dhaka. As his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment. He died there on 18 December, about a week later, while undergoing treatment.
Following the shooting, Jaber filed a case with the Paltan Police Station on 14 December on charges of attempted murder, which was later converted into a murder case after Hadi's death.
