Great Hornbill baby rescued in Ctg, alleged trafficker fined

A chick of a critically endangered Great Hornbill species was rescued in Chandanaish, Chattogram yesterday (5 May).
In connection with the incident, a mobile court run by the upazila administration fined Md Imran Tk5,000 for his alleged involvement in trafficking.
Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Diplomacyy Chakma said based on a tip-off, a man was apprehended with a Great Hornbill chick.
The mobile court fined him under the Wildlife Conservation Act, 2012.
The chick was handed over to the Dohazari Range of the Forest Department as per the court order.
Officials from the Dhopachhari-Sangu area, under the Dohazari Range of the Chattogram South Forest Division, rescued the chick from the Monglar Mukh area of Ward-3 under Dhopachhari Union.
The accused, Imran, is the son of Nasir Uddin from that area.
