Police rescue baby left by roadside in Chattogram, search for parents underway

Police rescued a newborn baby boy who had been left by the roadside in Chattogram late Tuesday night (25 February) and have launched a search to identify his parents.
The infant was found lying beside a footpath near Bridgeghat on Mariners Road under Kotwali Police Station during a routine patrol around 2:15am, police said.
On-duty officers received information that a newborn had been left in an open space opposite the S Alam bus counter in the Bridgeghat area.
After informing senior officials, police reached the scene around 2:30am and recovered the baby in the presence of local residents.
The newborn, wrapped in a towel and a piece of cloth, was taken into police custody before being sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Aftab Uddin said the baby appeared physically weak and is currently receiving treatment at Ward No 32 of the hospital.
Police said they searched the surrounding area but could not immediately trace the child's guardians.
Efforts are underway to identify the parents and determine the circumstances in which the baby was abandoned.
