Former Jubo Dal leader shot dead in Chattogram

A former Jubo Dal leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Raozan upazila of Chattogram last night (5 January), police said.
The victim, Jane Alam Sikdar, 34, was killed around 8:30pm in front of his residence in the Sikdar Para area of East Gujra union.
He was a former senior member of the Raozan upazila Jubo Dal and a follower of BNP leader Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury.
According to local accounts, Jane Alam was returning home from Olimiahat Bazar when three youths on a motorcycle intercepted him near his house. One of the attackers, who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, shot him twice in the chest at close range.
He was rescued in a critical condition and taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Raozan Police Station Sajedul Islam said police reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the shooting.
"He was taken to hospital, but he died. We are investigating the incident and trying to identify those involved," the OC said.
Earlier, on 25 October, another Jubo Dal worker, Md Alamgir, was shot dead in the Charabottal area of the municipality in a similar incident.
Police sources said at least 18 murders have been reported in Raozan since 5 August 2024, of which 13 are reported to be politically motivated. Many of the victims were followers of BNP leaders Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury or Golam Akbar Khandakar.
