Prime accused in Raozan Jubo Dal activist murder case arrested in Chattogram
Police have arrested the prime accused in the murder case of Jubo Dal activist Mohammad Mujib in Chattogram's Raozan upazila.
The accused, Md Naim, 27, was arrested from the Mazar Gate area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station in the city last night (26 February).
Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sajedul Islam confirmed the arrest, saying a joint investigation was launched immediately after the killing under the directive of the Chattogram district police superintendent.
According to police, members of the district Detective Branch (DB) and Raozan police conducted coordinated operations, including visiting the crime scene, questioning witnesses, collecting and reviewing CCTV footage, and carrying out data and technological analysis.
"Based on continuous operations and investigation findings, the main accused, Md Naim, was arrested from the Mazar Gate area last night," the OC said.
He added that drives are ongoing to arrest other suspects involved in the incident and to recover the weapon used in the killing.
Earlier, around 7:15pm on Wednesday (25 February), several assailants opened fire on Mohammad Mujib at Alimia Hat in Madhyam Adhar Manik village under East Gujra union of the upazila, reportedly over a prior dispute.
Locals rescued Mujib with bullet injuries and took him to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Following the incident, the victim's wife filed a murder case with Raozan Police Station, naming several accused and including six to seven unidentified individuals.
Mohammad Mujib, son of the late Abdul Monaf of Anju Pita Bari in Ward No. 4 of East Gujra union, was the father of two sons. Family members said his elder son suffers from mental health complications, while his younger son lives abroad.
