A Dhaka South City Corporation staff and a Bangladesh Ansar member have been arrested from the capital while they were extorting money in the guise of administration personnel.

On Sunday night, detectives arrested Md Noble Hossain Mithu, a chainman at Dhaka South, and Nagar Bhaban's Ansar Camp in-charge, and Duty Inspector (PC) Md Shahidul Islam on charges of extortion at Jakir Super Market in the capital.

Mithu claimed to be a magistrate while Shahidul, pretended to be the magistrate's gunman.

Mithu has been terminated for engaging in such immoral conduct and activities contrary to official discipline, reads a press release issued on Monday.

Documents on Shahidul have been also presented to the controlling office.

A case was filed against them on Monday with Bangshal Police Station.

Mithu's office order states that he has been terminated from his job in accordance with the Dhaka South Employees Employment Rule 64 (2) of 2019 to protect the public interest and that of the corporation.
