4 members of alleged inter-district robbery gang arrested with arms in Ctg

Chattogram police have arrested four members of an alleged inter-district robbery gang in a special operation and recovered firearms, ammunition, sharp weapons, cash, and a pickup truck allegedly used in recent robberies.
The operation was carried out yesterday morning (19 June), near the Chunati Range Forest Office on the Chattogram–Cox's Bazar Highway.
Chattogram District informed the matter to media through a press release today (20 June).
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Arifur Rahman and Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain set up a checkpoint in the area. During the search, a suspicious vehicle was intercepted. As officers approached, the suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended after a brief chase, the release read.
The arrested individuals are Abul Kashem, also known as Jamai Kashem, 52, from West Kathuria in Banshkhali; Sadekur Rahman, 31, from Phultala in Chakaria Municipality; Md Kamal, 35, from Bazarpara in Chakaria; and Kefayet Hossain, 24, from East Bara Bheola Sikdar Para, Chakaria.
During the search, police recovered two locally-made firearms, four rounds of 12-bore cartridges, a machete, a spring-loaded knife, two sharp knives, an iron cutter, two crowbars, four mobile phones, a portable hard disk, Tk16,000 in cash, Tk824 in coins, and a single-cabin pickup truck with Chattogram Metro registration number 11-8853.
According to police, the suspects confessed during initial questioning to committing a robbery in Fakirpara under Patiya Police Station and were transporting the looted goods and cash to Chakaria when they were intercepted.
Abul Kashem has at least eleven criminal cases filed against him, including charges of armed robbery, attempted murder, and violence against women and children. The other three suspects also have multiple cases pending against them, the release added.
OC Md Arifur Rahman said a case has been filed under Sections 19(A) and 19(F) of the Arms Act, and the four arrested have been presented before the court.
"Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining seven members of the gang who managed to escape during the operation," he added.
