The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained three suspects, including the prime accused, in connection with the murder of mobile phone technician Akash Ghosh in the Enayet Bazar area of Chattogram city.
The prime accused, Md Sani, 24, was detained last night (14 November) during an operation in Rowshan Hat of Chandanaish upazila. Based on information provided by him, RAB later detained his associates Md Yusuf, 35, and Shakil Alam Faisal, 26, from Chaitanya Goli on Reazuddin Road under Kotwali Police Station.
RM Mozaffar Hossain, assistant superintendent of police, confirmed the arrests at a press briefing today (15 November).
According to RAB, the victim — Akash Ghosh — a resident of Goalpara Pukurpar area and a mobile mechanic by profession, had replaced the display of Sani's mobile phone about a month ago.
He demanded Tk1,500 for the repair, of which accused Sani paid only part. When Akash continued to ask for the remaining amount, Sani allegedly lured him to an alley in Kasaipara around 1am on Thursday (13 November).
There, in a premeditated attack, Sani and his associates allegedly hacked Akash with sharp weapons, killing him.
Locals rushed to the scene and took Akash to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
RAB said legal proceedings are underway.
