1,500 litres rectified spirit seized in Bogura
A total of 16 people have reportedly died after ingesting toxic liquor in Bogura in the last few days

Police have seized 1500 liters of rectified spirit, apparently stored for spurious liquor production, from a homeopath shop in Bogura on Thursday.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station, said they conducted a drive at Kartowa Homeo Hall and Laboratory in the district town and seized the chemicals around 11am. They also seized various equipment, including drug manufacturing instruments, from the shop.
The OC revealed that the drive was conducted as per information gleaned from Shahidul Alam Sabur, the shop owner who is now serving remand in police custody.
He along with owners of three other homeopath shops were placed on two-day remand each on Wednesday.
The others are – Nurunnobi, owner of Parul Homeo laboratories; Abdul Khaleq, owner of Moon Homeo Hall; and Abu Jewel, worker of Hasan Homeo Pharmacy.
They were arrested from different spots of the district on the previous day allegedly for selling toxic liquor.
In the district, a total of 16 people have reportedly died after ingesting toxic liquor in the last few days.
Family members and relatives confirmed that the deceased had ingested liquor before their abnormal demises.
However, the superintendent of district police, Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan claimed that toxic liquor consumption had claimed eight lives in the district. He was speaking at a press conference at Bogura Sadar Police Station on Wednesday morning.
