1 held over murder of 12-year-old child at Jatrabari hotel room; PBI suspects murder after sexual abuse
A DNA profile of the victim has been created to confirm his identity, and investigations are continuing with the assistance of the PBI’s Barishal district branch

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested a suspect in connection with the mysterious death of an unidentified 12-year-old child after recovering his body from a residential hotel room in the capital's Jatrabari area.
The suspect has been identified as Md Al Amin, 34.
According to PBI, the victim, a lost child, met Al-Amin after asking for directions to Barishal.
Following this, Al-Amin and another individual took the victim to a residential hotel where they abused him sexually before killing him.
In a press release, the PBI said that the body of an unidentified boy was recovered from a room at a residential hotel named Anwara in Jatrabari on the afternoon of 14 July.
As the child's identity could not be confirmed, members from Jatrabari Police Station filed a murder case against unidentified individuals.
Following the case, PBI's Dhaka Metro South's Crime Scene Unit launched a shadow investigation immediately after the incident. The investigation uncovered horrifying details.
It was revealed that on 12 July, the victim met Al-Amin and his associate Saddam at Kamalapur Railway Station. During their conversation, the child mentioned that he had not eaten for a day. Al-Amin then bought the child food and sandals, keeping him with them throughout the day.
The following evening, the child was taken to a room at the Anwara Hotel in Jatrabari. As there was no electricity in the room, Al-Amin entered first, followed by Saddam.
It is alleged that in that room, they repeatedly attempted to engage in unnatural sexual acts with the child, causing the child to fall ill.
The next morning, when they tried to sexually abuse him again, the teenager resisted.
Al-Amin and Saddam then began to beat him. At one point, Saddam kicked the boy in the chest, causing him to fall off the bed. The child died as a result of the continuous torture.
Using technology, the investigation identified Al-Amin, and the PBI arrested him from the Tongi Railway Station area of Gazipur Metropolitan at 9pm on Friday (18 July).
Later, when he was produced in court, Al-Amin gave a confessional statement under Section 164 before Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman.
PBI said that operations are ongoing to arrest the other accused, Saddam.
Meanwhile, the identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed, though police are assuming his home to be in Barishal.
A DNA profile of the victim has been created to confirm his identity, and investigations are continuing with the assistance of the PBI's Barishal district branch.
