The four accused are Md Saju, 32, Rustam, 35, Md Arman, 38, and Md Saju alias Sanju alias Sabbir, 24, confirmed Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's prosecution division.
A Dhaka court has placed four accused on a two-day remand in connection with the murder case filed over the crude bomb explosion that killed a youth at the Geneva Camp area in Dhaka's Mohammadpur on 23 October.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia passed the order today (27 October) after a hearing.
The four accused are Md Saju, 32, Rustam, 35, Md Arman, 38, and Md Saju alias Sanju alias Sabbir, 24, confirmed Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's prosecution division.
Earlier, on 24 October, the case's investigation officer, SI Md Mosharraf Hossain, sought a seven-day remand for the accused, saying they had been found involved in the incident during primary investigation.
The court, however, sent them to jail and set today for the remand hearing.
During today's hearing, the investigating officer reiterated that the accused had knowledge about the whereabouts of the other named and unnamed suspects. Police requested remand to interrogate them to uncover the motive, identify others involved, and conduct further drives if needed.
Defence lawyers opposed the remand plea and sought bail, which the prosecution objected to.
According to the case statement, around 3:30am on 23 October, 50–60 people detonated crude bombs at the Geneva Camp area. As residents rushed out after hearing the explosion, one of the accused, Chua Selim, 35, handed a bomb to another accused Sajjad Golapi, 19, who threw it at Jahid, 20.
The bomb exploded at the back of Jahid's head, causing severe injuries. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, Madina, Jahid's brother, filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station, naming 27 individuals as accused.
