Writ seeks probe into Yunus, former advisers over measles vaccine policy
The writ also sought a travel ban on them until the investigation is completed
A writ petition was submitted today (17 May) with the High Court seeking directives to investigate the role of former chief adviser Muhammad Yunus and former advisers of the interim government over the measles vaccination issue.
Those named in the writ included former advisers Asif Nazrul, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adilur Rahman Khan, Nurjahan Begum, Brigadier (retd) Sakhawat Hossain, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, and Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, among others.
The writ also sought a travel ban on them until the investigation is completed.
Supreme Court lawyer Barrister M Ashraful Islam filed the writ alleging involvement in shifting the measles vaccination procurement and funding system from the public to the private sector.
The cabinet secretary, health secretary, home secretary, public administration secretary, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, and other relevant government officials have been named as respondents in the petition.
Earlier, on 6 April, the lawyer had sent a legal notice to the authorities concerned seeking an investigation into what he described as "criminal activities" linked to transferring vaccination programmes, including measles vaccination, from the state system to the private sector.
While briefing the media, he said a severe outbreak of measles had spread across the country, with more than a hundred children dying and many others receiving treatment in hospitals
