Two associates of Tarique Siddique placed on four-day remand in anti-terror case
The accused are Md Mahidul Islam, 42, and Md Chan Mia, 46
A Dhaka court has placed two associates of former prime minister's military adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique on a four-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Ramna Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroze Tithi passed the order today (1 May), following a police petition. Sub-inspector Shah Alam of the prosecution division confirmed the matter.
The accused are Md Mahidul Islam, 42, and Md Chan Mia, 46.
Earlier, the investigation officer, Inspector Md Amjad Hossain Talukder of the Detective Branch, produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
According to the remand application, the accused, being close associates of Tarique Siddique, were involved in anti-state conspiracies to strengthen the activities of a banned organisation and destabilise the interim government. The application also stated that remand was necessary to uncover their role in suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement and their involvement in supplying arms and funds.
Mahidul Islam was arrested in Thakurgaon on 19 April, while Chan Mia was arrested from the Bhashantek area in Dhaka on the same day. They were later taken on a total of 12 days' remand in a murder case filed with New Market Police Station.
According to the anti-terror case details, on 12 May 2025, processions were carried out in front of Rupayan Tower in Banglamotor to strengthen the activities of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League.
In connection with the incident, police filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act, naming 11 individuals and accusing 40-50 unnamed others. The two associates of Tarique Siddique have now been taken on remand as accused identified during the investigation.
