Teacher’s death near parliament: 2 accused confess involvement
Khokon and Rajib Matbar were arrested after the 29 August incident in which Ronjila Parvin suffered a fatal head injury.
Two accused in the case over the death of a headteacher after a snatcher allegedly pulled her bag from a moving autorickshaw near parliament have confessed to their involvement.
Md Khokon and Rajib Matbar gave confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on Wednesday before separate Dhaka metropolitan magistrates, said Prosecution Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam today (17 September).
Case investigation officer DB Inspector Saiful Islam produced the two accused before the court and sought permission to record their statements after they voluntarily agreed to confess.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin recorded Khokon's statement, while Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan recorded Rajib's. The court later sent both to jail.
According to the case statement, Ronjila Parvin, headteacher of Bagbari Government Primary School in Bogura's Gabtali upazila, was travelling with her husband Md Abdul Matin, in an autorickshaw around 5:55am on 29 August to see an eye specialist.
When they reached near Gate 12 of parliament on Manik Mia Avenue, motorcycle-borne snatchers allegedly grabbed her handbag and pulled it forcefully. The force caused Ronjila to fall from the moving autorickshaw, leaving her with a severe head injury.
She was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in critical condition. She was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital when doctors declared her dead.
Her husband filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station over the incident. Following the case, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Khokon and Rajib from different parts of the capital on 16 September.
RAB said it seized a stolen smartphone, cash and the Yamaha R15 motorcycle allegedly used in the snatching from them.
Earlier, RAB-2 had arrested Rakib, Md Mosharraf Hossain Poni and Sedric on 30 August and sent them to jail after remand, claiming that a motorcycle recovered from them had been used in the snatching.
However, DB chief later said the model and colour of the motorcycle seen in CCTV footage did not match the one recovered by RAB. A preliminary investigation found that the three had no involvement in the teacher's death, and DB will recommend their discharge in the final report.
