Subrata Bain denied bail, charge hearing in arms case set for 15 October

A Dhaka court has rejected the bail petition and postponed the charge hearing in the arms case against Subrata Bain and his three associates, setting it for 15 October.
Judge Saifur Rahman Majumder of Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal 15 passed the order today (14 September) following a hearing.
During the hearing, Bain's lawyers requested bail, while state lawyer Mahfuzur Rahman opposed it. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail application and fixed 15 October for the charge framing hearing in the presence of all accused listed in the charge sheet.
On 13 July, investigating officer Aminul Islam of the DB police submitted the charge sheet against the accused. The case was later transferred to Dhaka Special Tribunal 15 for trial.The other three accused named in the charge sheet are Abu Rasel Masud, also known as Molla Masud, M A S Sharif, and Arafat Ibne Nasir.
Earlier on 27 May, Subrata Bain was arrested, along with his associate Molla Masud, during a special operation by the Bangladesh Army in Kushtia district.
Later, based on their information, two more associates of Bain - shooter Arafat and Sharif - were arrested from Hatirjheel area in Dhaka. Five foreign pistols, ten magazines, 53 bullets, and a satellite phone were recovered in the operation. A case was filed on 28 May by SI Asaduzzaman of Hatirjheel police station under the arms act.
Subrata Bain faces multiple charges, including murder and extortion. His criminal career began with the killing of Jasad Chhatra League leader Murad in Agargaon in 1991.
In 2001, the Ministry of Home Affairs of Bangladesh announced a reward for capturing 23 miscreants, including Bain, who was then head of the influential Seven Star Group in Dhaka's underworld.
Bain fled to India in 2003 as law enforcement intensified.
