Arrested with 11 pistols, Subrata Bain's associate Bipu faces 5-day remand
Bipu was arrested yesterday, around 8:30pm, in a raid conducted by an army team at a house in the Moddho Badda Bepari Para area under Badda Police Station.
A Dhaka court today (7 February) granted a five-day remand for Mehedi Hasan Dipu, alias Bipu, an associate of top-criminal Subrata Bain, in a case filed under the Arms Act with Badda Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin passed the order, Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Hossain of the DMP Prosecution Department confirmed the matter.
During the hearing, the investigating officer, SI Suman Mia of Badda Police Station, requested a seven-day remand, citing Bipu's alleged involvement in the case.
According to the remand petition, preliminary evidence links Bipu to illegal arms activities across the Badda and Vatara areas and other parts of Dhaka, along with unidentified accomplices. Investigators claim that during initial questioning, Bipu provided misleading information about his associates, prompting police to describe him as "highly cunning." Authorities said that if released on bail, he may abscond, making intensive interrogation necessary to uncover the case's core details.
The petition also highlighted the need to determine whether Bipu had stored or sold firearms in connection with the upcoming national parliamentary election, and to identify which terrorists he may have supplied or intended to supply with weapons. Police are investigating whether the illegal arms were being stockpiled for major criminal acts or potential murders.
Bipu was arrested yesterday, around 8:30pm, in a raid conducted by an army team at a house in the Moddho Badda Bepari Para area under Badda Police Station. Eleven foreign pistols and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered during the operation. Sub-Inspector Md. Hasanur Rahman filed the case under the Arms Act.
