A Dhaka court has ordered a three-day jail gate interrogation of Latif Bhuiyan Kamal, brother-in-law of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, in connection with a murder case related to the 2024 July uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam issued the order on Friday (4 July) after a hearing.

Earlier, investigating officer Sub-Inspector Md Shamiul Islam of Gulshan Police Station produced the accused before the court and sought a ten-day remand.

The remand plea stated that the accused was present at the scene and funded efforts to suppress the July protests, and that a ten-day remand was needed for thorough interrogation.

The defence lawyers opposed the remand and applied for bail.

The prosecution then objected to the bail plea.

After hearing both sides, the court rejected both the remand and bail requests, and instead ordered a three-day jail gate interrogation, Sub-Inspector Moktar Hossain of the prosecution unit at Gulshan Police Station confirmed.

Police arrested Latif from a house at the Aftabnagar intersection in Badda Police Station area around 3am last night over the killing of a local named Parvez Bepari in Gulshan  during the uprising.

According to the case statement, on 19 July, around 500 to 700 protesters were demonstrating in Gulshan when they were attacked and fired upon.

Parvez was shot during the incident and was declared dead by doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Following the incident, Parvez's father Md Sabuj filed a murder case naming 312 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Although the case was initially filed at the Badda (North) Police Station, it was later transferred to Gulshan Police Station.
