Addressing children participating in the competition, he said that after the July Uprising, the nation has found the path to move forward again.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the student-people uprising in 2024 "freed the country again", marking a renewed path forward for Bangladesh.
"This Bangladesh was once under subjugation. Our forefathers made this country independent through armed struggle. Even after that, the country faced various problems," he said while inaugurating the Notun Kuri Sports programme at Sylhet District Stadium this evening (2 May).
Addressing children participating in the competition, he said that after the July Uprising, the nation has found the path to move forward again.
Urging children to participate in sports, "Each of you will be an ambassador of Bangladesh. Through sports, you will present Bangladesh to the world. You are the future of the country. You will have to take responsibility for Bangladesh."
Speaking about the concept of Notun Kuri Sports, the prime minister said, "Four and a half years ago, when Aminul [State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque] visited London, we first discussed the idea at a restaurant. Later, we decided that if we come to power, we will launch this programme."
He added that the government would support children in both education and extracurricular pursuits. "From the government, we will support our young friends within our capacity, whether in studies or sports."
"For those who want to become doctors, engineers, athletes, singers, or musicians, we will ensure that they can pursue their dreams," he further added.
State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque delivered the welcome speech at the event.
