HC issues rule questioning legality of Faridpur constituency boundary changes
The court directed the Election Commission (EC) secretary and other relevant officials to reply within 10 days.

The High Court has issued a rule questioning why a gazette notification altering the boundaries of Faridpur constituencies should not be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Biswajit Debnath issued the rule today (16 September) after the primary hearing of a writ petition filed by two nomination aspirants for the 13th parliamentary election.
The gazette excluded Algi and Hamirdi unions from Faridpur-4 (Bhanga, Sadarpur and Charbhadrasan) and attached them to Faridpur-2 (Nagarkanda and Saltha).
Lawyer Humayun Kabir Pallab, who represented the petitioners, told journalists that the court issued the rule asking why Article 125(a) of the Constitution and Section 7 of the Representation of the People Order should not be declared contradictory to the Constitution, and why the gazette should not be declared illegal.
The court directed the Election Commission (EC) secretary and other relevant officials to reply within 10 days.
Earlier, two nomination aspirants from Bhanga upazila — Krishak Dal General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul and Supreme Court lawyer Mahbubur Rahman Dulal — sent a legal notice to the EC seeking cancellation of the gazette.
On 4 September, the EC published the final list of re-demarcated boundaries for 300 constituencies through a gazette notification.
