Child dies with Measles symptoms in Sylhet, death toll reaches 3 in 5 days
All the victims were under the age of one.
Another child has died with measles symptoms in Sylhet, raising the death toll to three over the past five days.
The deceased, seven-month-old Bishwajit died around 12:30pm yesterday (10 April) while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. He was from Fenchuganj upazila in Sylhet.
The latest report from the Divisional Director (Health) office confirmed the matter this morning (11 April).
With this, the death toll of children with measles symptoms in Sylhet has risen to three. All the victims were under the age of one.
Earlier, a child named Arisha died on 8 April and a two-month-old infant died on 6 April while undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
According to the Health Department's latest report, one new case of measles was confirmed in the last 24 hours.
The report further said that from 1 January to date, a total of 41 cases of lab-confirmed measles and rubella have been identified in the Sylhet division. Among them, 7 are from Habiganj (including 2 rubella cases), 13 from Moulvibazar, 11 from Sunamganj, and 10 from Sylhet.
Meanwhile, 19 new suspected patients were admitted to different hospitals in the last 24 hours. Among them, 13 were admitted to Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, five to Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital, and one to Shantiganj Upazila Hospital in Sunamganj.
A total of 101 suspected patients are currently undergoing treatment across the division, including 53 at Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital and nine at Osmani Medical College Hospital, while others are receiving treatment at various public and private facilities.
