HC orders preservation of election documents in Bagerhat-2 constituency
The court also issued notices to other candidates who contested in the constituency.
The High Court has directed the Election Commission to take custody of ballot papers, result sheets, and other electoral documents of the Bagerhat-2 constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The order was issued today (1 April) by a single bench of Justice Mohammad Ali after accepting a petition filed by BNP candidate Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain challenging the election results.
The court also issued notices to other candidates who contested in the constituency, seeking their responses regarding the matter.
According to the unofficial results, Bangladesh Jamat-e-Islami candidate Shaikh Monzurul Haque Rahad was unofficially declared the winner in Bagerhat-2, securing 117,709 votes.
His closest rival, BNP nominee Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, received 66,409 votes.
Following the announcement, Zakir Hossain moved to the High Court to challenge the legality of the results.
