Former Ctg MP Fazle Karim shown arrested in two more cases

A Chattogram court has shown former member of parliament (MP) ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury arrested in two additional cases related to last year's July uprising.
Judge SM Alauddin Mahmud of the 6th Metropolitan Magistrate Court passed the order today (19 June).
Chowdhury, who is currently in custody, was not physically present during the hearing but appeared virtually via a LED screen system in the courtroom.
According to court sources, during the hearing, the former lawmaker identified himself as the elected representative of Chattogram-6 constituency and denied any involvement in the violence that took place in Chattogram city during the student-led protests. He claimed he was innocent and not connected to any of the incidents being investigated.
Chattogram Court Police Inspector Shahinur Alam confirmed that the petitions to show Chowdhury arrested were filed by investigating officers in connection with two cases under Kotwali and Sadarghat police stations.
These cases stem from attacks that occurred on 4 August last year during the anti-discrimination protests. The court granted both petitions after the hearing.
The former MP has been behind bars since his arrest on 12 September last year. He was caught while trying to flee the country illegally through the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria, allegedly in an attempt to cross into India.
