Final arguments begin in crimes against humanity case against Hasina, Asaduzzaman
In total, testimony from 54 witnesses was heard and cross-examined over 28 working days in this case.
The final phase of arguments began today (12 October) in the trial of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and another accused in a case filed over crimes against humanity during the July Uprising.
The arguments are being presented at International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar.
The prosecution's arguments are being broadcast live on the prosecution's Facebook page.
ICT Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said the prosecution would begin the arguments first, followed by the state-appointed defence lawyers presenting their case.
The prosecution would then respond to the defence arguments, he said, adding that after this stage, the case would be kept pending for judgment.
The other accused in the case is former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. Mamun has given his statement as a state approver.
On 8 October, the tribunal completed the third day of cross-examination of the case's chief investigating officer, Md Alamgir, by state-appointed defence lawyer Md Amir Hossain, representing Hasina and Asaduzzaman.
After that, it set the date for argument hearings.
