ICT may deliver verdict next week against Obaidul Quader, 6 others in crimes against humanity case
The prosecution and defence have completed their closing arguments in the case over crimes against humanity during the July Uprising.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) may deliver its verdict next week in a case against seven people, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, over crimes against humanity committed during the July Uprising, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Aminul Islam said today (3 September).
The verdict could be scheduled for any day next week as both the prosecution and defence have completed their closing arguments, he said while responding to journalists at a press conference at his office.
"We expect the tribunal to deliver its verdict next week. Since both the prosecution and defence have completed their arguments, the case could be scheduled for verdict on any day next week," the chief prosecutor said.

The other accused are Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim; former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat; Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash; its General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil; Chhatra League President Saddam Hussin; and its General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.
All seven accused are absconding.
Tribunal-2 completed the closing arguments in the case on 17 August and kept it awaiting verdict.
The examination of prosecution witnesses concluded on 2 August, with 29 witnesses, including the investigating officer, testifying before the tribunal.
On 22 January this year, Tribunal-2 framed charges against the seven accused and ordered the trial to begin.
Earlier, on 18 December last year, the tribunal took cognisance of the formal charges submitted by the prosecution.
