Earlier, on 17 November, Lavlu was taken into custody after he posted a photo card on social media supporting Sheikh Hasina following her death sentence verdict.
A Dhaka court has placed Dhaka University deputy registrar Muhammad Lavlu Mollah on a three-day remand in a case filed five months ago under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Shahbagh Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order today (8 December) following a police petition.
Earlier, on 17 November, Lavlu was taken into custody after he posted a photo card on social media supporting Sheikh Hasina following her death sentence verdict.
He was shown arrested on 18 November in connection with a case filed five and a half months ago over a flash procession by Awami League and its affiliates, confirmed his lawyer G M Kausar Ul Islam.
He said the investigation officer applied for a seven-day remand, and the defence requested its cancellation.
During the hearing, the defence lawyer said Lavlu shared a photo card on his Facebook account with Sheikh Hasina's picture and the words 'I don't care'. The caption read 'Joy Bangla Joy Bangabandhu'. He said Lavlu has no connection with the case and it is false.
Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon opposed the defence.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.
According to the case statements, on 31 May around 6:30pm at Katabon intersection area under Shahbagh Police Station, supporters of Awami League and its affiliates chanted slogans. About five minutes later, they fled when police arrived.
The next day, the officer-in-charge filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against 40 to 50 people, naming nine specifically.
