Court orders travel ban on ex-minister Zahid Maleque's daughters
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez issued the order after the ACC applied for restrictions on their departure from the country amid an ongoing enquiry into corruption allegations.
A Dhaka court today (19 January) imposed a travel ban on Sadia Maleque and Cynthia Maleque, daughters of former health minister Zahid Maleque, amid an ongoing Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) enquiry into corruption allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez issued the order after the ACC applied for restrictions on their departure from the country. Court Bench Assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the development.
The application, submitted by ACC Assistant Director Mahathir Muhammad Sami, stated that the wealth statements provided by the two individuals are currently under verification.
According to the application, a review of documents and information received from confidential sources indicated that they may attempt to leave the country with assistance from Zahid Maleque.
The ACC argued that if they leave Bangladesh, the enquiry could be obstructed, and said the travel ban is necessary to ensure the investigation proceeds properly.
