Consensus commission concludes first phase of reform dialogues

The first phase of discussions between the National Consensus Commission and political parties, aimed at reaching a consensus on national reforms, has officially concluded.
This initial round wrapped up with an extended session held today (19 May) with the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), said a press release.
Commission's Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz noted that while these discussions led to agreement on many points, differences of opinion also emerged on several issues.
He announced that the second phase of discussions will begin very soon, focusing on a thematic approach to tackle these differing viewpoints and accelerate the creation of a national charter.
Badiul Alam Majumder, vice-chairman of the consensus commission, along with members Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Iftekharuzzaman, Md Ayub Mia, and Special Assistant to the chief adviser Monir Haider were also present at the meeting.
The CPB delegation, led by its general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, included presidium member Aniruddha Das Anjan, assistant general secretary Mihir Ghosh, and central committee secretaries Advocate Hasan Tariq Chowdhury, Abid Hossain, Advocate Anwar Hossain Reza, and Luna Noor.
The National Consensus Commission, chaired by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, was established to foster national consensus on reform.
It began its work on 15 February and officially initiated discussions with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on 20 March. Since then, the commission has engaged with 33 political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gono Sanghati, and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party.
