Complaint lodged with ACC against UP chairman-member of Kutubdia
They have so far embezzled at least Tk10 lakh during the auction process of the salt enclosures, preventing the government treasury to amass Tk20 lakh revenue.
Eleven citizens of Lemshikhali Union in Cox's Bazar's Kutubdia upazila have filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Commission, alleging that the UP chairman and thirteen others of the locality are engaged in bribery, corruption and misuse of power.
They submitted the complaint at Chattogram divisional office of the ACC on 10 January.
Apart from UP Chairman Akter Hossain, some 9 members of the union parishad are also among the accused.

According to the complaint, the local authority appointed one Kaisar for collecting tolls from the salt enclosures of the area, but he allegedly used to embezzle the tolls himself.
Came to know over the issue, Muktar Hossain, a resident of the area, filed a case with the court of Kutubdia judicial magistrate months ago. The court asked the UP chairman to submit a detailed explanation over the allegation.
Against this backdrop, the accused prepared fake documents of toll submission, allegedly by bribing the UP chairman and others concerned.
The ACC complaint also stated that the chairman and his accomplices are now collecting tolls arbitrarily and embezzling it.

The petition demanded that the matter be investigated impartially and legal action be taken.
However, the UP chairman ruled out all the allegations, saying everything happened as per rules.
"All the rules regarding the salt enclosures' lease have been followed. There is no question of embezzling money. I hope the ACC will find all the allegations to be false."
