ACC to interrogate ex-ICT state minister Palak at jail gate
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by the ACC.
A Dhaka court today (20 April) granted permission to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to interrogate former ICT state minister, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, at the jail gate for one day in a case filed under charges of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income and money laundering.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by the ACC.
ACC Assistant Director Al-Amin submitted the application seeking permission to interrogate the accused at the jail gate for the sake of a proper investigation.
Earlier, the case was filed on 12 December 2024 by ACC Deputy Director Md Mostafizur Rahman. The charges include sections under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 (Section 27(1)), the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012 Sections 4(2) and 4(3)), and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
According to the case statement, Palak allegedly acquired assets worth Tk8.73 crore beyond known sources of income through illegal means.
It further states that he deposited Tk32.04 crore and withdrew Tk29.84 crore through 25 bank accounts in his name, engaging in unusual transactions and laundering money through bribery and corruption.
