Coast Guard strengthens security measures for Eid travellers

Bangladesh Coast Guard remains vigilant to prevent any acts of sabotage, ensuring a safe river journey for Eid travellers, said Lieutenant BM Tanzimul Islam, the force's station commander in Narayanganj's Pagla, today (25 March).
During a security briefing at Dhaka's Sadarghat, he stated that since its inception, the Coast Guard has been working tirelessly to ensure the security of coastal and riverine areas. The force regularly conducts patrols, joint operations, and large-scale raids to prevent illegal activities and ensure safety on waterways.
The officer further explained that the Coast Guard, through its four zones—Dhaka, Bhola, Chattogram, and Mongla—has intensified security measures at key launch, ferry, and boat terminals in preparation for Eid. These measures include special patrols, public awareness campaigns via loudspeakers, leaflet distribution, searches of suspicious individuals and vessels, and luggage scanning for passenger safety, added the station commander.

Regarding security measures, he highlighted that the Coast Guard is ensuring comprehensive safety on major river routes, including the Buriganga River in Dhaka, the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj, Gajaria in Munshiganj, and the Meghna River in Barishal, covering key routes such as Dhaka-Chandpur-Barishal-Patuakhali-Bhola.
Additionally, continuous patrols are being conducted at important launch and ferry terminals, including Sadarghat, Banglabazar, Karnaphuli, and Kumira in Chattogram; 6 No. Ghat, Adinath Mandir Ghat, and Boro Ghop Ghat in Cox's Bazar; Rupsa, Koyra, and Noliyan in Khulna; Sharonkhola and Kaikhali in Mongla; Ilisha and Bheduria in Bhola; Patuakhali Launch Terminal; and DC Launch Terminal in Barishal.
The Coast Guard official assured that these security operations are running 24/7 and will continue after Eid-ul-Fitr as well to ensure the safety of passengers traveling by waterways.
