CCC launches family card initiative to support over 3 lakh low-income families in Chattogram
Mayor Shahadat also mentioned that a data-driven database is being developed through the Family Card initiative, which will assist in implementing other social safety net programmes in the future

The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has launched a major initiative to distribute Family Cards to more than 300,000 low-income families in the city, enabling them to access subsidised food products provided by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The move aims to ensure that essential food items reach underprivileged citizens efficiently, transparently, and without the interference of middlemen. The announcement came during a meeting on Wednesday (28 May) at the CCC conference room, where TCB Chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Faisal Azad met with Chattogram Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, according to a press release.
"Access to TCB products is the right of every citizen, especially the underprivileged," said Mayor Shahadat. "A transparent and sustainable system based on Family Cards is necessary to ensure these benefits reach the intended recipients."
He emphasised that the CCC is committed to preventing irregularities in the distribution process and is working continuously to deliver government-subsidised products directly to eligible families. "There will be no room for middlemen or corruption," he added.
Mayor Shahadat also mentioned that a data-driven database is being developed through the Family Card initiative, which will assist in implementing other social safety net programmes in the future. "No sustainable city can be built without pro-poor policies and initiatives," he noted.
Praising the CCC's efforts, TCB Chairman Brigadier General Faisal Azad said, "Under Mayor Shahadat Hossain's effective leadership and planning, the delivery of products to underprivileged citizens has become more efficient. This initiative in Chattogram could serve as a role model for other city corporations across the country."
The meeting was attended by CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, Secretary Md Ashraful Amin, and other senior officials of the corporation.
