Chattogram City Corporation changes logo, replacing boat with lotus
City Mayor Shahadat Hossain said the boat symbol was removed because it is associated with a political party

The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has unveiled a new logo, replacing the boat symbol with the national flower lotus.
The updated logo was released on the CCC's Facebook page today (24 February).
The previous logo featured mountains, rivers, traditional Chattogram sampans, and street lamps, all of which remain, except for the removal of the boat and the addition of the lotus.
City Mayor Shahadat Hossain said the boat symbol was removed because it is associated with a political party.
He stated that upon assuming office, he decided to replace it with the lotus flower, a "universal symbol."
Shahadat Hossain, former convener of Chattogram city BNP, was declared mayor of the city corporation by a court ruling on 1 October 2024.
He subsequently took oath on 3 November and assumed office on 5 November.
City corporation officials said the mayor directed the creation of a new logo shortly after taking charge, resulting in the approved design featuring the lotus.
The change follows the 2021 Chattogram City Corporation elections, where Awami League candidate M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was elected mayor with the boat symbol. Dr Shahadat Hossain, then a BNP candidate, filed a case alleging election rigging.
He was later declared mayor by a court ruling following the political changeover on 5 August last year.
