Ctg Port Authority, city corporation to form committee to settle Tk160cr holding tax dispute
The port authority, in a letter sent yesterday (14 August), requested the names of representatives from the city corporation.

The Chattogram City Corporation and Chattogram Port Authority will form a joint five-member survey committee to resolve a dispute over Tk160 crore in holding tax. The committee will reassess the port's applicable tax rate through a joint survey.
The port authority, in a letter sent yesterday (14 August), requested the names of representatives from the city corporation.
The city corporation's CEO Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam said that Chief Revenue Officer SM Sarwar Kamal and Chief Conservancy Officer Commander Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury will represent the city corporation in the committee.
Previously, a joint survey set the port's annual holding tax at Tk45 crore for FY2021–22 to FY2025–26.
The CPA claims it has already paid an extra Tk55 crore, clearing dues for the current fiscal year. However, city corporation sources say the port's tax was reassessed at Tk160 crore in FY2016–17.
Former mayor Rezaul Karim had reduced it to Tk45 crore, but current mayor Shahadat Hossain reinstated the Tk160 crore claim.
In July, the city corporation billed the port authority Tk160 crore for the current fiscal year and Tk17 crore in arrears, prompting a counter-letter from the port authority.
