CA orders enhanced cybersecurity nationwide ahead of elections
The member secretary of the National Cyber Security Council and Director General of the National Cyber Security Agency, Dr Md Tayebur Rahman, presented the agency’s activities, future action plans, and details of the “Cyber Incident Reporting and Response System.”
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today (28 December) directed authorities to strengthen cybersecurity nationwide in preparation for the upcoming elections.
During a meeting of the National Cyber Security Council at the state guest house Jamuna, the chief adviser emphasized the need to counter cybercrime, misinformation, and threats to critical digital infrastructure. "Centring the upcoming election, we must enhance our information technology capabilities and strictly combat all forms of cybercrime," he said.
He also urged prioritising citizen service sectors, regular software and hardware updates, improved skills of cybersecurity personnel, and the introduction of a rating system to assess institutional cyber readiness.
At the meeting, Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, said that 35 institutions have already been listed as Critical Information Infrastructure. He also emphasised the importance of coordination between the National Cyber Security Agency and the BTRC to prevent rumours, misinformation, disinformation, and other cybercrimes in connection with the upcoming elections.
At the meeting, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur said various measures have already been taken to further strengthen cybersecurity in the banking sector, and more initiatives are currently in progress. He also praised the initiative to form sectoral CERTs (Computer Emergency Response Teams).

Others present at the meeting included Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division Shish Haider Chowdhury, IGP Baharul Alam, and National Board of Revenue Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan.
Following the promulgation of the Cyber Security Ordinance 2025 on 21 May, the National Cyber Security Council was formed on 26 August under the amended ordinance to ensure cybersecurity for various state institutions and citizens. This 25-member council is headed by the chief adviser of the interim government.
