Mayor Md Abdul Baten of Bera Municipality under Pabna district has been suspended for physically assaulting the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO).
The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives issued a gazette notification on Tuesday carrying out the suspension order under the Local Government Act 2009.
The notification read that Md Baten assaulted the Bera UNO and used slang language and threatened the government official during the monthly meeting for October at the conference room of the upazila.

Later, Pabna deputy commissioner submitted an investigation report over the incident that followed the local ministry action today.
The indecent behaviour and misuse of power by the municipality mayor is tantamount to the crime demanding suspension under the law, the notification explained.
