Bailey Road tragedy: Brishty Khatun's body handed over to her family
In response to a question from the journalists, Additional DIG said, the victim worked in various places using the name of Ovisruti Shastri. That's why confusion was created over her identity and her colleagues claimed she was Hindu.
The body of a journalist known as Abhishruti Shastri was handed over to her father Sabuj Sheikh on Monday as DNA profiling confirmed her identity, 11 days after a deadly fire on Bailey Road killed her.
Her real name was Brishty Khatun.
The samples of her DNA matched those collected from her parents on Sunday, Additional DIG of Dhaka Metro CID Md Jahangir Hossain Matubbar confirmed the matter, reports UNB.
"The victim worked in various places using the name of Abhishruti Shastri. That's why confusion was created over her identity and her colleagues claimed she was Hindu. Later they understood and wrote to the police station, to hand over the dead body to her parents," said the officer.
Her father Sabuj Sheikh said, "The truth has been established, I am her father. Finally, I received the body today and I will take her to my village. There, she will be buried in the family cemetery with a Janaza according to Islamic Shari'a."
Brishty was the eldest among his three daughters.
Ramna Police Station Sub-Inspector Habibur Rahman was present during the handover. After due procedures, at around 2:55pm, Sabuj Sheikh left Dhaka with Birshty's body.
Brishty died in the fire incident at the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in the capital on 29 February.
Following the news of his daughter's death, Sabuj rushed to Dhaka from Kushtia that day. He identified his daughter's body, following which a crisis over the deceased's identity sparked.
Colleagues and acquaintances claimed that the deceased young woman's name was Abhishruti Shastri.
Her body has remained in the mortuary of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute due to confusion raised over her true identity.
Later, her identity was confirmed through fingerprint testing on 1 March. According to the National ID, her name is Brishty Khatun from Banogram village of Kushtia's Khoksha upazila
