Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi, director general of Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa known as Hathazari Madrasa, has resigned from his position in the wake of student movement.

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Amir Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi's resignation was announced at Majlis-e-Shura meeting in his office in the madrasa on Thursday night.

However, Majlis-e-Shura recruited him to the post of chief adviser (sadrul muhtamim) to the madrasa.

Majlis A'shura upheld all the previous decisions, including the expulsion of Anas Madani, son of Ahmad Shafi. Madani also serves as the central publicity secretary for the Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh.

Besides, Mawlana Nurul Islam was relieved from all of his responsibilities.

Students of the madrasa began their agitation to press home their five-point demands, including the removal of Allama Shafi from his position, on Wednesday.

Agitated students vandalised the office of Shah Ahmed Shafi at the madrasa on Thursday morning.

Using loudspeakers, the agitators asked other students to join the movement.

During the attack, they also used abusive language mentioning the name of Shah Ahmed Shafi.
