Most of these patients were injured in accidents involving motorcycles and auto-rickshaws

Hospitals in Dhaka have seen a surge in patients injured in road accidents during the Eid holidays, with the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), commonly known as Pangu Hospital, treating the majority.
According to physicians, most of these injuries were caused by accidents involving motorcycles and auto-rickshaws.
From 30 March to 2 April, a total of 412 patients were treated at Nitor following road accidents. Of these, 141 were injured in motorcycle accidents, while the rest were victims of accidents involving other vehicles.
Additionally, 53 road accident victims are currently admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to the Bangladesh Passengers' Welfare Association, 60 people lost their lives in road accidents in the past four days, with 17 of them being motorcycle accident victims. The highest number of fatalities occurred in Chattogram.
The highest number of fatalities occurred on Eid day, with 26 deaths. The day before Eid saw 8 deaths, while the second and third days of Eid recorded 12 and 14 deaths, respectively.
Md Abul Kenan, director of Nitor, told TBS that over 1,100 patients, including those injured in road crashes, have been admitted in the past four days due to various accidents.
On the day after Eid and Wednesday, around 300 patients were admitted daily. Despite the increasing patient load, Kenan assured that the hospital has sufficient staff, ensuring uninterrupted medical services.
Hospitals typically experience a surge in road accident victims during and after Eid. This time, a significant number of critically injured patients have come from outside Dhaka to seek advanced treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Nitor, according to physicians.
