A microbus crashed into a dump truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway near Fouzjdarhat Cadet College in Sitakunda this morning (3 February), leaving two passengers dead and two others including the driver injured.

The accident occurred around 6:15am in the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway.

The deceased were identified as Anwar Hossain, 62, a resident of Narayanganj, and Rahima Begum, 60, from Mohammadpur in Dhaka, confirmed Abdul Momin, in-charge of Barawliya Highway Police Station.

"Anwar Hossain was killed on the spot. Rahima succumbed to her injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment in the afternoon", he added.

Among the injured are passengers Kazi Riyad, 34, from Munshiganj, and the microbus driver whose identity is yet to be ascertained, said Masud Rana, in-charge of Fouzdarhat Police Outpost.

The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

"The Highway police will take legal action in this connection", Masud Rana added.

Upon receiving information a team from Kumira Fire Service Station rushed to the spot and rescued the injured from the microbus.

According to officials from the Kumira Fire Service Station, Anwar Hossain was traveling to Cox's Bazar with 7-8 family members and relatives in a rented microbus from Nazirabazar, Dhaka. The accident occurred when the vehicle reached Fouzdarhat, causing severe damage to the microbus.

Anwar Hossain died on the spot, while local residents and fire service personnel rescued the injured and rushed them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Senior Station Officer of Kumira Fire Service, Al Mamun, said that the driver was drowsy while driving, leading to the crash into the rear of a dump truck parked beside the highway.
