3 killed in Mirsarai bus-truck collision, 5 injured

Three passengers were killed and at least five others injured when an air-conditioned double-decker sleeper bus crashed into the rear of a timber-laden truck in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram today (9 January).
The accident occurred on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka–Chattogram highway near Dhumghat Bridge, near the Baroierhat municipal market.
The deceased were identified as Nafis Ahmed, 16, Sabitun Nahar, 25, and Mintu Mia, 45, confirmed officer-in-charge of Jorargonj Highway Police Station Mohammad Jakaria.
According to highway police and local residents, a Forest Department check post operates near Dhumghat Bridge, where timber-laden vehicles are often stopped on the roadway for document verification. Around 2:30am, the Dhaka-bound sleeper bus rammed into the stationary truck.
At least 8 passengers were injured. Local residents rescued them and took them to nearby hospitals, where doctors declared three of the passengers dead. The remaining five injured were later referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
OC Jakaria said the families of the deceased have been informed. He added that the body of Nafis Ahmed has been handed over to his family.
He added that preparations are underway to file a case. Both vehicles involved are now in police custody, while their drivers fled the scene.
1 killed, 15 injured as bus hits stationary truck in Munshiganj
One person was killed and at least 15 others were injured after a passenger bus rammed into the rear of a stationary goods truck on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj, amid dense fog.
The accident occurred around 5am today in the area adjacent to Nimtala railway station on the expressway in the upazila.
According to sources at Srinagar Fire Service and Civil Defence, a passenger bus belonging to Purbaasha Paribahan rammed into the rear of a stationary goods truck in the Dhaka-bound lane beside the expressway. The front portion of the bus was badly mangled, trapping passengers inside. One person died on the spot, while at least 15 others were injured.
Upon receiving information, fire service personnel rushed to the scene and rescued the injured, taking them to the Srinagar Health Complex.
Confirming the incident, Srinagar Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Dewan Azad Hossain said the expressway was shrouded in dense fog in the early morning hours, with visibility reduced to a very short distance.
"Due to the dense fog, the bus crashed into a stationary truck from behind. One person was killed on the spot and at least 15 others were injured," he said.
He added that the injured were taken to the Srinagar Health Complex, and several of them were later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
