Worker killed in Baridhara crash: Teen taken into custody after CCTV evidence, victim's family accuses another person in case
Teen was earlier detained by people at the scene and handed over to police, who released him after questioning
Police have taken into custody a 17-year-old who was found in the driver's seat of a private car after it ran over and killed a construction worker on a footpath in Baridhara yesterday (22 September), after CCTV footage and other evidence indicated his involvement in the crash.
The teenager, identified as Azan, was detained from his Gulshan home this afternoon (23 September) after police reviewed the footage and other evidence, said Gulshan division Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Kabir.
"The accident footage was analysed, and his involvement was found. He has been brought under the purview of the law," he said.

Azan was initially detained by people at the scene and handed over to police. However, after questioning that night, police released him into his uncle's custody.
Meanwhile, a case filed over the death names Akash Marok, 44, as the driver. Police said Akash has been absconding since the incident.
CCTV footage shows two people getting out of the car after it hit construction worker Mehedi Hasan, 24, and came to a stop against a streetlight pole. One of them, wearing a black T-shirt, is seen exiting from the driver's side.
Police had earlier said Azan was taken into custody to protect him from possible mob violence amid public anger at the scene.
The accident occurred around 5pm yesterday on the footpath of Road 1 in Baridhara Diplomatic Zone. Mehedi was sitting on the footpath to rest when the speeding car lost control, mounted the footpath and ran him over.
He was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Mehedi's elder brother Moktadir Islam later filed a case with Gulshan Police Station under the Road Transport Act, naming Akash Marok as the driver.
SI Arifeen Islam, the investigation officer, said the next legal process was underway.
Police sources said the vehicle is registered in Azan's mother's name.
Azan is an O-level student at an English-medium school in Gulshan, while his father is a captain with Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Attempts to contact case plaintiff Moktadir were unsuccessful.
