A Dhaka court today (27 September) sent three people arrested in a case over the alleged illegal entry, vandalism and looting at content creator Salman Muqtadir's BrownFish studio to jail.
The court also fixed Wednesday (30 September) for hearing a police plea seeking five-day remand of the accused, said Tariqur Rahman, a sub-inspector of the prosecution department.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the orders tonight following a police petition.
The accused are Md Mamun, 32, Md Aslam, 24, and Munna, 29.
Earlier, Subrata Debnath, investigating officer of the case and an inspector at Cantonment Police Station, produced the three before the court and sought five days' remand for questioning.
According to the police petition, the accused admitted their involvement in the incident during preliminary questioning. Police also said their initial investigation had substantiated the allegations made by the complainant against the named and absconding accused.
The investigation is ongoing, and the investigating officer opposed bail, saying the release of the accused could hamper the probe. Police therefore sought their remand for proper investigation.
According to the case statement, around 50 people entered the project area of New Gini Properties Ltd in West Matikata under Cantonment Police Station last night (26 September).
They allegedly fired around 50 rounds indiscriminately and attacked people with machetes, knives and sticks, seriously injuring site engineer Md Parvez and several others.
The attackers also entered Salman Muqtadir's BrownFish studio without permission, vandalised the premises and looted valuables.
Cash, laptops, computers, BRB cables, cameras and professional media equipment were allegedly taken from the project area. Several vehicles were also vandalised, according to the case statement.
The company estimated property damage at around Tk1.43 crore and the value of the stolen goods at Tk1.50 crore.
Police arrived after being informed of the attack, but the attackers allegedly opened fire at them. Police then fired five rounds from shotguns in self-defence and to bring the situation under control.
Two of the accused were arrested at the scene, while another was later arrested during a police drive. Police said locally made weapons and spent bullet casings were recovered from those arrested.
Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, an official of the project, filed the case with Cantonment Police Station.
Ten people were named as accused, while another 150-200 people were listed as unidentified accused.
