Brothers among 3 jute mill workers killed as train hits pickup truck in Faridpur

Three workers of a jute mill, including two brothers, were killed and nine others injured when a pickup truck was hit by a train and plunged into a ditch in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur yesterday afternoon (12 January).
The accident occurred at around 3pm in the Sotashi rail gate area when a local train travelling from Kalukhali to Bhatiapara struck the pickup carrying workers of Janata Jute Mill as it was crossing the railway track, police and local sources said.
The deceased were Mohammad Jabbar Mollah, 20, and Mohammad Musa Mollah, 22, two brothers from Bilkorail village in Boalmari upazila, and Mosammat Shahanara, 35, all of whom died on the spot.
Those on the pickup truck were returning home after finishing their shift at Janata Jute Mill in the Dobra area.
The injured were rescued by locals and emergency responders and taken to Boalmari Upazila Health Complex. Four of them, whose condition was reported to be critical, were later referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Boalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Rakibul Hasan and Officer-in-Charge of Boalmari Police Station Md Anwar Hossain visited the accident site following the incident.
Further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
